About Vidyut

Vidyut Singhal is a classically trained and accomplished artist.  Her journey in painting started at a very young age in India. She pursued her passion for art by studying at the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in India and graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.
After moving to the U.S, she obtained her BFA in graphic design and worked as a corporate graphic designer for many years.  This gave her a different medium through which she stayed connected with art while learning and experimenting with new media and techniques. After retirement, Vidyut put her total energy into rekindling her passion for painting.  Most of the art showcased on this website was created in recent years.
Vidyut truly enjoys creating commissioned art pieces for collectors and personalizing them according to their choices and specifications. Her artwork is displayed and sold through local art galleries and online.

Painting Style:
Vidyut enjoys experimenting with new styles, mediums, and techniques.  Her painting style has evolved in time, from intricately- detailed, to abstract to textured paintings.
Earlier during her time in India, she learned to paint in a traditional, highly-detailed Indian style with watercolor tempera and wash techniques on rice paper and silk. With time her tone changed. She made Indian-themed paintings and landscapes in oil and acrylic.

With the Covid lockdown of 2020, Vidyut was intrigued by abstract art.  She learned the acrylic fluid art style, an abstract painting technique where acrylic paints are mixed with different types of liquid mediums. Many colors are poured onto a surface in a variety of ways. Colors are then manipulated by tilting, blowing, dragging, spinning, etc., to name a few. Poured colors then intermingle and create new colors and different abstract designs. The results can not be duplicated or reproduced, resulting in unique artwork.

Most recently, she became fascinated with impasto paintings and changed her style to reflect this newfound interest.  Acrylic impasto is a technique whereby thick acrylic paint is applied to the canvas using palette knives. This creates an impressionistic style of artwork, rich in texture with vivid, bright colors.

Vidyut’s love of travel and gardening is evident in her artwork through her favorite subject, landscapes, and nature.  She takes thousands of photos during her travels and draws inspiration from those memories for her artwork. The lush Italian red poppies, fragrant purple fields of French lavender, blue mountains, and colorful flowery meadows of Tuscany and Provence. Tall white Colorado aspen trees turning gold and red in the Fall, and the bountiful vineyards of Napa Valley, are some of the subjects seen in her artwork.  She wants to evoke the same joy in her viewers through her paintings.

She says, “I paint with my heart rather than just my hands and rich colors to express my thoughts.  I feel happy, relaxed, and connected to Nature. I am thrilled when a collector appreciates my work.”
